Our classroom is full of surprises! One afternoon in December, our students returned from lunch to a big one! Each desk had a soft and cuddly wolf on it, along with a journal. Students quickly hugged and loved on them while coming up with a unique name for their very own wolf!
Soon they found out that these cute, cuddly companions were a cleverly disguised assignment! They were challenged to take their wolf with them everywhere that they could during their almost three week break from school. They were required to write at least 8 entries in their journal and include 3 or more pictures.
This is a win, win project for the teacher because it gets kids writing over the long break and I got to read all about their adventures while they were gone!! The kids got creative with their writing and the photos. Some of them even chose to write their journal from the wolf's point of view.
You won't believe how well traveled our wolves were! They traveled to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan, West Virginia, Mexico and more! They even cruised around the Caribbean. Phew! They must be exhausted! I am super proud of my fifth graders for keeping up with their energetic wolves and their writing!!
